Welcome to my column!
My name is Keke Bethune: shoe
stylist, wardrobe consultant, general fashion victim extraordinaire. Every
week, I’m going to take you through all that is current in the world of fashion
and show you how to interpret these trends into your newly inspired everyday
life.
Happy Fashion Week, every fashionista’s favorite event and
best source of inspiration
ever! After
our unseasonably beautiful “cool” front last weekend, fall/winter wardrobing is
at the forefront of everyone’s mind. The
ensembles that ended up closest to my heart were those on the runway at Miu
Miu, Louis Vuitton, and Rebecca Taylor.
There is something so right about a 1940’s inspired outfit in our old
New Orleans atmosphere! This prim and
proper look is also easily translated into your weekday working wardrobe,
making it one of the more practical trends this year. Thank you, designers, for giving us every
excuse to bust out the lipstick and the pin curls!

To rock the look, stick with tailored pieces like a trench or a pencil skirt, then add on flowier pieces like a
prim blouse or a floral dress. Wide-leg pants work for this look as well. Keep the color palette muted, with
camels,
teals, and shades of
Bordeaux being optimal choices.
The footwear should be as far from the super-high Louboutins of seasons past as possible: more demure, practical pumps strike the right chord. Glitter (a la Miu Miu) and leopard keep things from getting too serious.
If you’re feeling jaunty, a pair of oxford flats or menswear-inspired slippers are always a cute and walkable choice.
This look screams for structured bags and clutches; slouchy hobos are very 70’s and don’t get the message across quite as well.

For a quick fix, tie a scarf around your hair and throw on some cat-eye sunnies. Talk about instant gratification!
Keep the makeup matte and classic: bonus points for red lips. Spend your time picking the best shade for you and always ask for help at the makeup counter when changing your makeup routine. The fear you have in deviating from your standard smoky eye will be alleviated when you have the know-how to try this universally flattering look.
As always, wear the look with confidence, your most important accessory.
Love and fashion,
Keke
